I have been working to clean the water and develop seafood farming around our islands since 1992.
As more of our tidelands are certified clean for shellfish harvest I would like to see the benefits of shellfish farming go islanders instead of large off island corporate operations or large tribal operations.
It will only require farming one tenth of our tidelands most of which has no homes on the shoreline
Several tideland owners on the islands are interested in starting sustainable family shellfish farms as a Community organization.
The Community can enjoy a sustainable $76,000,000 being pumped into our economy every year by exporting to Asia.
150 permanent planting and harvesting jobs can be created.
The Community will profit from the many farming supply and support businesses required.
Value can be added by operating our own processing plant and hatchery.
